We will begin our enchanting tour to the beautiful Chianti region and the picturesque village of San Gimignano. We will drive up the hill to “Piazzale Michelangelo” from where you can enjoy a bird’s eye view of the city skyline and take some beautiful photographs. We will now continue the trip on our way till we reach a very quaint and delightful village in the Chianti region where we can enjoy some lovely Italian coffee and mouth watering pastries, we will also stroll along the piazza and browse in the shops in and around the square.
The tour will now show you the beautiful undulating landscapes of the region as we drive through winding roads which pass through luscious vineyards and enchantingly green olive groves. Traveling through these little known but picturesque back roads we will visit a charming “pieve” a local church set amidst the green backdrop of hills before reach the famous village of Radda in Chianti, medieval town which has retained most of its character and heritage.
We will stop for a light lunch and wine tasting at one of the most famous vineyards of the region. You will get to see how the vineyards work and flourish in this region. You can also purchase the produce of the vineyards which include honey, red wine vinegar, white wine vinegar, infused vinegars, extra virgin olive oils, Chianti wines, grappa and vin santo.
After the lovely lunch and wine we will travel deeper into the Chianti region till we reach the medieval village of San Gimignano, the town of beautiful towers. It began as its origins as a little Etruscan village, develop through the middle ages and is now a UNESCO heritage town. You can explore the various interesting sites including a church, museum, the piazzas and quaint shops selling typical produce of the area including cinghiale (wild boar), salami and truffles (tartufo) and the white wine Vernaccia di San Gimignano which is famous throughout the region and many parts of the world.
This town is filled with podestas or towers. Originally there were about 150 but today there are only 18 left. These high and majestic towers served as fortresses, lodgings and prestige symbols.
San Gimignano is a historic town typical of the Chianti region. After exploring this beautiful town we will head back to Florence by 6 pm.
