Nobile di Montepulciano tour

Montepulciano is an ancient Etruscan hill town of Tuscany, which was built on a ridge of the Poliziano Hill.

Famous for its beautiful castles and churches, as well as its wines, such as Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and Rosso di Montepulciano.

Vino Nobile (Nobile Wine) takes it name from historically being produced by nobile families, and was considered as a wine fit for gentlemen.

This red wine is made from a blend of grapes that includes 60-80% Prugnolo Gentile (Sangiovese Grosso), 10-20% Canaiolo Nero and up to 20% lesser grapes, the use of which is authorized by the province of Siena. It is aged in oak barrels for two years, whilst the Vino Nobile Riserva version is aged for three years.

In exploring this region, your driver will collect you from your accommodation in Florence, before travelling south until you reach your first stop in Pienza, a small town near Siena. This is actually where Pope Pius II was born. During his lifetime, he had the town completely redesigned to make it a model Renaissance town. On his orders, the architect Bernardo Rosselino was commissioned to build a Duomo (Cathedral), a Papal Palace, and a Town Hall,  all of which were completed in a period of three years. You will stroll through the streets, take a browse through the the shops, and can even sample the typical food products of the region, such as the famous Pecorino cheese of Pienza.

Our next stop will be in Montelfollonico, a small fortified village, where you will visit the ancient winery, where Nobile di Montepulciano has been produced with devotion and passion spanning throughout centuries. We will visit the ancient cellars that date back to the thirteenth century. Here we will have a private tasting session and learn the about the ancient method of making Nobile di Montepulciano. The terrace of the winery offers a splendid view of the surrounding countryside.

You will then have lunch in a typical Tuscan restaurant, enjoying specialty Tuscan dishes. After lunch, you will visit a second winery, where both Nobile di Montepulciano and Super Tuscan wines are produced. An exploration of the cellars will be followed by a sampling of the wines produced onsight.

You will finally be returned to your accommodation by 5.30pm. We can also offer you a customized itinerary of the other tours offered by us. We are just an email away.
